Simple Observations

I would like to share an observation from one of the ladies in our church.  I saw this on Facebook and asked her if I could use it.  I find it amazing how many illustrations we will notice all around us if we are walking with God.

“When I get into my car at 0330 to go to the gym, I look up and see millions of stars in the night sky. When I am getting close to town, they seem to have disappeared. Why is that? It is the same night sky and my focus is still the same, so why can't I see the stars clearly anymore? It is because the town is lit up with artificial lighting. This is what it is like as I walk with Jesus. My focus is on Him, but sometimes the cares of life can blind my eyes to Him. He is still there because He has promised never to leave or forsake me, but the devil and the world shine the artificial, the false light to try to dim my view of what is truly important, my walk with Jesus and just as important my commitment to share the Gospel with a lost, sin-sick and dying world. Thank you Lord Jesus for this humble lesson in this morning's sky and commute.”

There are a few applications I would like for us to make.  First, let us not be distracted by the “artificial light” of the world, but rather let us walk in the True Light, Jesus Christ.  Satan will appear as a light, “And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light,” (II Corinthians 11:14).  However, John reminds us in I John1:7, "But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”  Secondly, let us, as this dear lady, observe the illustrations of God and His Truth all around us each day.  Do not become so distracted by the artificial light that you miss the simple lessons God wants to teach you.
